1. PROGRAM OVERVIEW & CONTEXT

The Issue: The Challenge We Face

Across Yemen, families face an unimaginable choice: which child eats today? The devastating conflict has pushed Yemen into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, where hunger has become a daily reality for millions. Parents watch helplessly as their children grow weaker, unable to provide the most basic necessity—food.

Currently, 49% of the Yemeni population—approximately 17 million people—are food insecure, with 5 million expected to experience emergency levels of food insecurity. The conflict has worsened Yemen’s fragile economy, which contracted by 54 percent, pushing the prices of food, fuel, and other basic goods out of reach for much of the population.

Food insecurity and malnutrition remain pervasive, with particularly severe impacts for the most vulnerable groups, including women and girls, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and marginalized communities. An estimated 3.5 million children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women face acute malnutrition.

Our Approach: Goals & Objectives

Overall Objective: Increase access to safe, secure, and life-saving food assistance and protect/restore agricultural livelihoods for the most vulnerable households in Yemen.

Our Objectives:

• Objective 1: Improve immediate household availability of and access to food for the most vulnerable through the provision of in-kind food assistance.

• Objective 2: Ensure equitable access to assistance and protection for the most vulnerable through the provision of Cash and voucher assistance.

• Objective 3: Improve household food security for at risk groups by supporting agricultural and livestock systems and assets.

Who We Help: Target Beneficiaries

Our food security programs prioritize families facing acute food insecurity and malnutrition, including female-headed households, internally displaced persons and returnees, children under five and pregnant/breastfeeding women at risk of malnutrition, marginalized communities (Muhamasheen), elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities who face additional barriers to food access.

• Support small holder farmers with emergency agriculture supports.

• Delivering regular cash assistance to enable families to purchase food with dignity.

• Supporting emergency agricultural activities and livelihood programs.
